NZ Pacific Studio is an international centre in Mount Bruce where environmentalists, researchers, and creative people focus on a project of their design. About 500 residents have lived and worked at the centre since it opened in 2001.
The five-acre facility is based in an historic villa built in 1911 and restored in 2001. There are seven workspaces, with studios of various sizes, a library of more than 2,000 books, an art collection, four fireplaces/woodstoves, a sauna, gardens designed by Hannah Zwartz, and more. The centre is a private retreat and is open to the public on Open Studio Days.
A non-profit institution, NZ Pacific Studio raises funds to offer 5-7 supported residencies each year; otherwise, residencies are self-funded. Residencies are flexible -- as short as one weekend or as long as three months. Residents have complimentary access to Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre.
