Wairarapa Ki Uta, Wairarapa ki Tai
I am Manager for the above group, a 36 strong secondary school Kapa Haka. The group name has a history dating back to 2005 but the current group has been together since late April 2015.
The group recently represented Wairarapa at the Wairarapa ki Te Awakairangi Secondary Schools Regional Competition.
The group tutors and I are keen to keep the group together and continue to develop their leadership and Kapa Haka skills.
Some of the group members are from single parent families, low income families and some of them could be termed "at risk youth”.
We believe that by continuing to nurture them, by keeping them engaged in Kapa Haka this will not only give them confidence in themselves but also develop positive future Maori leaders for our region.
Already we are looking at sending some of our boys to a Taiaha Wananga in Christchurch in October and another established group will be coming to audition some of our group to join them on a trip to Tahiti in 2016.
To assist with financing such activities we offer Kapa Haka performances for any occasions for a reasonable donation.
We are able to provide Kaikorero (speakers) where required and waiata for both formal and informal settings.
If you would like to take advantage of our offer please contact me directly
